Seo, Jang-Geum (Acted by Lee, Young-Ae)
She is a beautiful and intelligent girl with a positive attitude and outgoing and enthusiastic. She’s haunted by many series of trouble and difficulties yet she overcomes them with the iron-strong will. She spends her childhood with her parents in a rural village where butchers, one of the bottom classes of the time live together. Her parents originally of a high class live in the village to hide themselves away from a certain accident where they got involved. One day a rebellion Gap Ja Sa Hwa(甲子士禍), a political massacre breaks out and this brings her separation from her father and even her mother’s death.
She enters the royal palace at the age of ten and she puts her heart and soul, finally becoming the best royal cook of her times, and recognition of her talents. One day she falls into a conspiracy and is expelled from the palace together with her mentor, Lady Han. She forced to work as a maidservant for the local government in Jeju Island. But she doesn’t stop here. She studies medicines and re-enters the palace, ultimately becoming the supreme royal physician and also becoming the first woman physician in history to serve the king.
Min, Jung-Ho (Acted by Ji, Jin-Hee)
Min Jung Ho is a judge of the Hang Sung Boo, a government ministry governing the affairs of the capital Hang Sung. While he was working at the city hall, he encounters Jang-Geum and helps her get a golden pheasant. And this puts him a serious trouble where he even risks his own life. He’s an outstanding scholar who not only passes the civil service examination but also possesses great martial arts talent as a military officer, which leads to a position at the Royal Guards. Min Jung-ho becomes romantically bound to Jang-geum as he moves to Nae Geum Wee, the Royal Military Guard as Jong Sa Gwan, a senior officer. He is a learned man with both good looks and high intelligence. He is left a widower soon after marriage, and volunteers to be on night duty which naturally brings him close to Jang-Geum. Gyo Suh Gak is the place of their rendezvous. He is a learned man with intelligence and good looks.
Admiring Jang-Geum’s wisdom and passion for learning, he helps her in many ways and falls in love with her. But his love for Jang-Geum also puts him in a lot of trouble. Later, he gets impeached by Sa Hun Boo, the Government Intelligence Agency and fired for his efforts to help Jang Geum after he becomes a senior official of Nae Eui Won, a government agency in charge of healthcare and drugs.
Choi, Geum-Young (Acted by Hong, Li-Na)
She enters the royal palace with Jang-Geum and becomes her long-time rival. She is the niece of Lady Choi, who holds the place of power in the royal kitchen. She is an arrogant girl burning with ambitions and uses her beauty as a bait. Despite the disparity in social standing, ever since she was little, she has loved Jung-Ho but her love is never returned. She competes with Jang-Geum to become the best royal cook.
King Joong-Jong (Acted by Im, Ho)
He is the 11th king of Chosun Dynasty. He is a very gentle man but extremely irresolute and indecisive. He is the son of Ja Soon Dae Bi who has become the king after Yeon San Gun was dethroned. The king gets to know Jang Geum in the midst of his aggressive efforts toward to try to push for a reform in the political system in conjunction with hiring Jo Gwang Jo into his administration. He cherishes her warm-hearted nature and many talents. He later loves jang-Geum not as his physician but as a woman.
Lady Han or Han Ae-jong (Acted by Yang Mi-Gyeong)
Lady Han is an outstanding cook and one of the teachers and mentors of the royal kitchen. Strict in her principles, yet warm-hearted, she cares for Jang-geum like a daughter. She dies in a conspiracy planned by Lady Choi.
Lady Choi or Choi Seong-geum (Acted by Gyeon Mi-Ri)
She is the younger sister of rich man Choi Pan-sul and the aunt of Geum-young. Arrogant and self-assured, she is a master of cooking with a frightening tenacity to succeed. Her desire for power leads her to plot for the death of Madame Park, the mother of Jang-geum, and Lady Han. She also expels Jang-geum from the palace.

Hay! salamat wala na rin ang kotrabida sa buhay ni Jang Geum. Ha!ha!ha! kaya lang nakakainis pa rin kasi nandyan si Jung Ho, nakakainis laging niyayakap si jang geum. By the way sana lagi kayong manood ng jewel. nakakainis nga kasi malapit ng matapos ang jewel sana kumuha ulit ang GMA ng tv drama ni Lee Young-ae tsaka sana mahaba din. Hi all,
did you all notice that there are 2 person playing 2 role in this movie?
1st - shaman lady who explain the curse letter to jang geum’s uncle appeared again as lady court after lady Han & lady Choi is dead.
2nd - jang geum’s daughter already appeared in the scene where’s jang geum still a young girl and just entering the palace.
If you watch the movie again you’ll noticed it, i’m sure!!!

Hi, when I start to write this letter, I thought very much about what I must write .First I want to express my interest to your really beautiful acting , I first saw you on ‘ Dae Jang Geum ‘ and I really attract to your acting and so I decide to know more about you and your films then I search about you on internet , for the first time I saw your pictures in web pages I really astonished .I am sure that you ask why this person become astonished when saw me in the internet , you know I said that I’m attract by your acting but what was I saw in the internet was your ( I’m really sorry ) body and your apparent form not your beautiful acting that I love it very much . Hi,
I want to thank all the actors and actresses of this movie which touched my heart extemely. I watched the last three episodes of this series many times and cried each time. That was really a darama when King falled in love with Jang Geum and he couldn’t be with her because he really loved her and respected what she likes to do and her love. I cried a lot watching this movie and when finished, I restarted from the first episode. this time I put my accuracy on the historical point of the movie. I would like to thank you Ms.Lee for your excellent act in this movie which was very close to the reality, I believed it from my hear and it gave me more patience in life during showing this movie.
finally I wish you all the best, and I wish next time I watch the last 2 episodes I won’t cry

This movie can win a oscar. I can’t just stop watching this. I was just to cry when i first watched this movie. After i watched this movie i have known art is something unknown but i know art comes from heart. That’s why i have to thank everyone who made this drama
