Jewel in the Palace - Episode 1
June 27, 2005Jang-Geum’s father, Suh Chun Su, having a archery competition with other teams. He then later found out that his hand was bleeding and the arrow broken when he was about to pick the arrow out. This is a bad sign. Later on, he was assigned to feed the current Queen poison. She is the mother of YeonSanGun, and because of unfair reasons, she is kicked out of the palace and her husband (at the time is the King) orders people including Suh Chun Su to be witnesses and deliver poison to her. Before the Queen dies, she cursed that everyone that was involved, and handed her mother a bleeding cloth which contains her blood. This would be showed to her son when he grow up, so that her son (the future King) would take revenge for her.
Jang Geum’s father felt very guilty over this matter. He drinks alot of liquor and gets lost in the forest, hearing “voices” of the queen and her maid. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a dark cave. He then met a spiritual man, who predicted that 3 women will change his life, and that he will eventually die. The first lady is far away from this world, but she is still alive (who is the Empress that he had already met), the second lady would die for him, although he had save her life, and he would die because of the third lady, although she will save many people. If he don’t want to die, he should not meet the second and hence would not meet the 3rd lady. There is also hint showing that the 2nd lady where her head would immerse in water. Confused, Chun Su pleads the master for a clear explanation but the master vanishes in the air. Because of his words, Chun Su becomes aware and promises himself that he will never get married. He makes up his mind to live somewhere else to avoid woman number 2.
14 years later, Jang-Geum father was still haunted by the incident. Meanwhile in the Palace, they were busy preparing for the King’s mother birthday ceremony. Pu Royal Maid, or rather Jang Geum’s mother, saw her friend, Choi Cheng Qing (a.k.a Court Lady Choi) secretly putting poison into the dish which would be presented to the King’s Mother. She immediately report this matter to Court Lady, but because that Court Lady is related to Choi family, the Court Lady tells Chort Lady Choi what Pu Royal Maid saw. Obviously, the Chois’ plan to kill Yeon San Gun’s grandmother is ruined. Afraid that Jang Geum’s mother will tell anyone (she already told her best friend, who later becomes Court Lady Han), she was accused for having an affair with a Guard (they found the white powder that the guard gave her as a present, thanking her for helping him out), which is not true. She was supposed to be poison to death, but she was saved by her friend, Han Ae Choong (a.k.a Court Lady Han) secretly. The next morning, she was found and saved her life by Jang-Geum’s father, and when he first met her, her head was immersed in the river. This is a hint that signify he had met the second lady in his life. He kept following her, because he was worried that she would die for him. Soon, love began blossom and they got married. Jang-Geum was born later on.

This is so touching…. I loved this show and on the very last chapter.. I watched it 3 times and on the fourth time was 2:10-4:18 AM.. I had to sneak out of bed to see it!!!!

the sop opera jewel in the palace is very inspiring and touching that moves my heart and my whole being as well, to persevere things and by not losing hope no matter what happen…the character of jang geum can gve a smile to the people who’ve watch..very interesting movie!

This Korean drama is really exciting. Its the second drama i have seen so far made in Korea which is the best you can ever get. This drama made me cry at some points which made it the best enteraining drama you can get.

Hello, I am from Azerbaijan. I have always turned off the TV when I saw a Korean, Japanese or Chinese films. But it was only a few months before till I didn’t watch “Jewel in the Palace”. I can say only one thing: you, Koreans, have maked a great film about a great person. Thanks for this. Especially thanks to The Great Jang Geum-Young-ae Lee and her teacher Lady Han-Yang Mi-gyeong. I loved every bit of the film when i watched it in Zim, but cn’t watch it anymore since i’m out of the country, my mom, little sis and little bro, we’d all huddle together int he TV room and watch it together, Jangum’s character has really inspired me its good to know that i can at least get to know what’s happening through this site.

wow. i loved this series. when it was shown back in the philippines, i used to watch it everyday. i even stay in the hospital overtime just to catch this. i remember the other nurses bugging me to let them borrow my dae jang geum dvd. sigh. i miss it. too bad my dvd’s were never returned.
i hope they sell it at borders soon.

I am enjoying the drama for the 3rd time. I like to see how Jang Geum gratually earns love of the people around by her talant, honesty, support to others, care, and many other vertues and survives from the palace intrigues. I thank all who created such a wonderful film and wish success in future projects!

i have watched all the episodes along with my family and we have enjoyed it. I must remark here that the story coupled with the superb acting by all the actors and especially by Jang-Guem and her lover has made this into a all time favourite.
It really is a very good piece of creation.

i loved, love and still loving this drama series. I first watched it on singapore tv and i was so surprised to see it on nigeria’s AIT television.
Everything about the movie, the characters is well put together and it deserves a golden globe award. Please u guys should do a tour or something.

Hi ,l really love this drama so much. L come from Ghana which is in west Africa. Your drama was just shown on one of the television station in my country and l must confess it l am really in love with this drama. one thing which is interestings is that it is educative and also both adult and children can watch this drama because it does not show nasty things like romance in it .It really talks about the culture of the people of korea and how they do things.bye
