  1. I think Yang was the best actress in the series. Each expression is delivered by the face and body language, while other actors (including the main actress) could only deliver the main facial look associated with a feeling to be expressed, e.g. her sad expression can also include a feeling of happiness and worry, all in one. You can feel her sadness when she acts sad, where as other actresses make you feel that that’s what the director is telling them to do. I am a fan!

  3. Yes, I agree with chiu wong. I’m a fan of Han Sang Gung-Yang Mi Kyung. She acted best in the series DJG. Every move on her face and her body expressed well her role.

  5. Yes, indeed, han shang gong is purely the best actress in dae jang geum. I truly admire her(yang mi-kyung) acting skills. It was really sad to see her die. I even have many photos of her in Hong Kong! I wish to see her in more TV shows…

    The episode of Dae Jang Geum is an excellent episode during decade as well as remind us the life is full of facing with humanity & politics. The story been expounding our hearts deeply re-think the “value” of friendship,status, authority , hardship & prosperity. On the other hand, the Dae Jang Geum really reminding this new generation era onwards losing the focus, destination, instead, most of young fellows nowadays taking the easy-life for granted & losing the dignity on what’s the meaning of boy/girl relationships.

    The beauty of all actors & actresses they are playing a fantastic role in the episode. Behind, we can see how marvellous life experience of the directors are directing this episode.On the other hand, i am very impressed the culture of Korean. Really give them a BIG clap! clap ** ** ** and with 10 stars full marks !! We wish this episode would have english subtitle provide in future. We truly believe that more people would be benefit.

    My friends and I are broken heart when having watched the part of mentor Jang Geum was death. Mdm Yang Mi Kyung she is excellent actress.

    I hopefully can travel to Korea and understand the culture of Korea deeply in future.

    Once again, we are enjoyed this episode very very much in Melbourne, Australia. Thankyou.

  9. We are a group of people livring far apart from Korea, but, there are no boundaries by understaning the culture of Korea through this highest performance of episode. I would like to response the commentary wrote by daplees. I fully agree daplees mentioned, we can see through by watching the story of Jang Geum about the value of life. And all actors acturesses they are acting excellent and perfect.

    The actress of Jang Geum & mentor of Jang Geum and others, they are fantastic movie stars. Other counties of movie actors & actressess should learn from them.

  12. we don’t understand the language of either Korea or Chinese. But,we all enjoyed watching this drama. It would be great if there are english subtitle DVD or VCD be produced. Poor our friend she needs to interpret us !!

  13. yeah, i agree with the commentary of Ron that even though the lady hon won’t die, Jang Geum would also go back to Palace as a Chief Chef to correct d record for her mum. In my opinion, the director been off the track, he might thought the death of lady Han will earn the emotion of audience!! Anyway, through the drama of Dae Jang Geum, the acting skills of Ms Yang is confirmed excellent, but also the others are playing very well.

The King/Queen/King’s mother… assistance chefs/servants…freinds of Jang- geum..boy friend of Jang-geum…Jang-gem parents…..mentors in palace…etc… they are acting greatest. Really really good enough. Ms Yang, hopefully, you will be invited by acting more of drama in near future. However, don’t be exhausted yourself.

The drama of Dae Jang Geum is undoubtedly one of finest story series in Asian country The actors & actresses are presenting greatest in the drama as well as the story line without a piece of contradiction. I have been tranferred to work in HK this couple of years. I have found that the standard of HK movies are very poor, as well as all the comedies movie !! The standard of story line of HK movies are poor as well. They should have learned by watching the drama of Dae Jang Geum deeply and repeatly. We can see the educational standard and life experience of directors and actors how marvellous they are.

  22. I’m a huge fan of Ms Yang from Canada (They only started broadcasting DJG the end of July and showing only 2 episodes in each week). I couldn’t wait so I bought the whole series. Anyway, I think she did an excellent job in all the episodes. Although I haven’t watched the part where she’ll die but I truly think that she could’ve stay until the end of the series. And I agree with all those fans out there who thinks she’s one of the best Korean actresses. Too bad they don’t have English subtitles or else I would recommend this to all my friends who’s non Chinese/Korean. Anyway, I’m looking forward see more Ms Yang’s drama series/movies.

  26. We finally finish the whole series of DJG by watching the DVD. The overall of the actors & actressess are acting in a fanastic & excellent, except the last episode that a daughter of DJG been spoil the whole drama. So many adorable kids they can act as a daughter of DJG. Don’t understand the director they chose that little girl?!! Might she has some special background she has any relatives or friends connection with the director. Or might the director also remind us that our life is still facing with all kind of unfairness and politics!!

    Dae JangGeum was my first korean drama i watched recently. I was very amazed with all the crews in the movie. I found that all the actresses and actors were great especially you, Ms Yang.   39. What a great movie series. I seldom watched Korean series, so I don’t know much about Korean film stars. However, when I first watched DaeJanggeum, I feel that this is the movie that everybody have to watch. The series is quite inspire several people who are especially living in very hard situation. The whole family of mine, including my 2 sons (ages 10 and 11) love to watch Daejanggeum. It is a real popular movie series here in Thailand.

Lady Han and Jang Geum have melted my heart, your LOVE, Teaching, Strictness, Sacrifices, Forgiving, Tolerance and Cool behavior when Jang Geum was with you since young, its a “MUM’S LOVE”. It’s a pity that Lady Han have to die and not able to guide Jang Geum. I love the part when Lady Han have found out Jang Geum was her good friend’s Daughter, until they were sent to Jeju Island, I have weep when Lady Han passed away, leaving Jang Geum all by herself, very very sad and touching. I LOVE Ms Yang Mi Kyung, Lady Han, Lee Young Ae, Dae Jang Geum and I do hope to see more of your excellent shows in Singapore. I also hope to receive Ms Yang and Ms Lee reply.   52. I don’t usually watch korean telenovelas but dae jang geum is exceptional. It is very educational especially for us who are not korean. it gave us a glimpse of your proud history and culture. Ms Yang Mi Kyung is indeed a fine actress. I agree with the other comments, she can mix emotions so well, even in scenes she does not speak. Her work in dae jang geum is a tour de force! Dae jang jeum has the makings of a classic!

I’ve just read the story in the internet but watching it is very different… the scenes really amazes me….   78. Dae Jang Geum/Jewel In The Palace is a great TV show
    but it is a bit disappointing because it is showed in the
    Philippines in 2005 but it is released in 2003 so It’s a bit
    too late to catch up on what’s the gig on the cute cast.

    Im from the Philippines and dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) is also aired here. I really love this series. It makes me understand the korean culture fully. And this series will not be a success if it weren’t for the very talented and beautiful/handsome actors/actresses of this show.

    anyway, I also love Lady Han/ Han Sang-Gung because… I don’t know… when I saw her… I just felt like… she was my mom… hehe…

    Yang Mi kyeong is really a good actress. she really gave justice to her character.

    Aside from Lady Han, I also like Jang Geum… and Lady Choe… even though she’s evil… hehe…

    Glad to see more people discover our lovely Mi Kyung unni.
    Also want to reply to comment 78’s concern :

    Don’t worry Lucy Ann, Mi Kyung unni’s personality is as nice as or even better than Lady Han. Within this year, she visited Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China several times. Refer to her fans’ comments (in forum) who met her at those countries, she treated them like her friends, always have warm smile and never say no . Some of them even received the gifts from unni too.
    I also surprised that she left a message at her PBC foreigner message board (on Dec 24, item # 109) to support and blessing one of her fans in China who has been very ill. One of the things I appreciate Unni is her attitude to life, always positive and warm.

    P.S. : Unni is Korean means elder sister, nickname called from her female fans.

  84. To add on to lovernkatto’s comment, Mi Kyung unni also writes poetry in korean language, there were two books been published. From what the fans shared in discussion forums, the books are all sold out, cannot be found in the market anymore. Well, for us who don’t know the language, no point reading, unless there’s a translated version, hahaha…. but sometimes when we read the translation by devoted fans on Mi Kyung unni’s message in her PBC message board, she really writes like a poet. By the way, Ms Lee Young Ae also writes, she has also published a book compiling her writings, if I’m not mistaken, it’s more of articles expressing her emotions and feelings towards life.

  96. I think the best supporting character in Daejanggeum is that of Lady Han. A lot of viewers will really learn a lot from her character. Every scenes with her were so touching & you’d really admire her personality. I wonder if it’s because of the actress who played the role who I think is very, very much effective!   136. nakakainis talaga ang mga choi hindi ko sila mapapatawad sa ginawa nila kay Lady Han pinarusahan nila ng husto at saka tinali pa nila ang kapal nang pagmumukha nila.at episode 27 Lady Han pass away.meaning to say hindi ko na siya makikita since episode 28 to epi. 54 nakakamiss naman. if you watch this episode be prepared a tissue paper.dahil love na love natin si Lady Han ibuhos na natin ang ating mga luha of this episode.Lady Choi hindi ka rin magtatagumpay pagsisisihan mo rin ang lahat ng ginawa mong kasamaan.CHOI!   150. Hi everybody, it’s comforting to know that there are lots of us who admire Ms. Yang mi-kyung. She is a great actress, no doubt about it, she has this ability to immerse herself in the character that she is portraying, what comes out is natural acting, it is as if she is not acting at all. Further, she is so appealling on screen, there are lots of beautiful actress around but seldom you can find somebody like Ms. Yang whose beauty radiates from within her. You should watch the scene in JITP where she was imprisoned with Jang-Geum, for me that’s the best part (I’d watched it on VCD). You could feel her pain,courage, anger and tenderness just by looking at her face. It’s one of the most poignant scene in JTIP, I can’t take my eyes off her face on the scene because I don’t want to miss any single detail. I really admire this actress, I hope that I could also admire Ms. Yang, the person.

    To my fellow fans in the Philippines, why don’t we organized a fan club, eh???

    2> Originally, the role of Lady han was suppose to be played by the on e whos playing the role of lady choi.

    3> In real life, Catain Min and Jang geum didnt fall in love but the king is!

    4> Real Lady Choi is 10x worse. She even asked Geum Young to be the kings “mistress”!

  168. I’ve watched several Korean novelas here in the Philippines, but Jewel in the Palace is the only show which makes me REALLY watch and not miss every episode. The story is so different and the roles played by every actors and actresses suit them and are portrayed very well. I specially like Ms. Lady Han (Yang Mi Kyeung). She’s so good and beautiful. I agree with the others, that she’s so good that sometimes, even if there’s no dialogue, she can capture her audience through her expressions and gestures. Hope she answers emails.

It really made me sad when the episodes from where Lady Han is being accused and arrested, were played. I really cried when I watched the episode in which Lady Han died. I even memorized the lines you have said to Jang Geum before Lady Han died. The last episode before Lady Han died also made me cry and it was very memorable to me. I also know your lines there. So, you see, I really cried a lot because I was really touched by the love of Lady Han for Jang Geum. Now, I really miss seeing you in the series so I really want your name to be cleared at the end because you are a very kind person in that series. When I recall and remember the scene in which Lady Han is saying good bye to Jang Geum, I still keep on crying. I am really one of your avid fans. And, I really hope to receive a reply from you. I don’t have a cell. masadong mahigpit kasi ang aking kuya ayaw nila akong mag karoon ng cell nakakabwesit nga eh!. at hindi alam ng kuya ko na nag bablog me.   206. hi sa inyo, im new here, my name is gretchen but im gonna put my nickname chen nalang para di kami magiging magkapareha ni gretchen dito, heheh!!! i realy like lady han din or si Yang Mi Kyung, sa simula pa lang nagagandahan na ako sa kanya, and she can realy act well, she can mix her feelings, too bad she died here, but i guess yun cguro talaga nangyari sa real lady han, remember guyz when she knew na si Jang Jeung ay anak ng kanyang friend na si MyungYi, she talked a lot and cried to JangJeung, and said in the end that, “gusto ko na syang makita” she was pertaining to Jang Jeung’s mother, and look what happened, maybe its her nearly end na rin. coz as what she said, she wanted to see and be with MyungYi, destiny came wid her. and its sooo touching for me, maybe napapagod na rin syang manglingkod, i guess it is a perfect time for her to be happy in heaven, and to be wid her long lost bestfriend. oh my!!! heheh! pero, namimis ko talaga si lady han. di ko kaya toh. huhuhhhu” im happy pa rin kasi kahit papano nagpapakita pa rin sya kay jang jeung, so nanakita pa rin natin sya sa scenes, hehe!!! ganda ng ending nito!!! haaay!! kaht di ko pa rin alam. hahah! basta magiging head of the kitchen si jangjeung dto ata eh!! and magpapakita sa kanya si lady han ng ilang sandali at kakausapin sya, pero ilang sandali nawala sya!!! its sooo touching!!! haay!!!

  225. meron ba kaung vcd or dvd ng complete story ng JITP? actually nabasa ko na ung full story pero mas mganda rin cguro kung makikita ko cla, cno wala pang story dyan pede ko iemail sa inyo. 86 pages sya medyo mahaba pero sobrang ganda basahin hindi maboboring, ako nga pang tatlo ko nang ulit basahin eh, kc everytime na mapapanood ko, binabasa ko rin para updated sa next episode hehe ang daya noh.

    hi there gretchen! lam mo i’ve already read lots of comments from you sa website ni YMK. you are really a die-hard fan, i am too! hope we can be friends =)

    Sa lahat ng Filipino fans ni YMK, sana we could put up a fan club gaya ng suggestion nung isa nating kasamahan dito (i forgot who) and sana din makagawa tayo ng website niya na madali nating ma-ba-browse. kasi most of the websites na navisit ko so far eh in korean and i must say talagang nahirapan ako!=)
