The cantonese dubbing of Dae Jang Geum in the TVB version is excellent. It is close to perfecting. The dubbing people(for the lack of a better term) actually sound like the real voice of the actors in Dae Jang Geum. I am very, very impressed. Yes, I am abosolutely enthralled by this Koren series. It is my very first time to watch a Korean series and I am glad I did. I cannot wait for the next one - if it both has Sir Min and Dai Jang Geum, it would like a gift from heaven.

i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by jelyne germata — November 30, 2005 @ 8:26 pm
I watch Dae Jang Geum every Saturday night dubbed into Japanese on the North American Japanese channel TV Japan. Other than the woman doing Hon Ri-Na’s voice sounding a bit too old (at least to me), the dubbing is flawless.
I’ve watched lots of asian historical dramas and realize most would not translate well into English as they get bogged down in historical facts and persons that aren’t relevant outside the original country. However, Dae Jang Geum strikes me as the first asian drama that would do well in the western market. The story is straightforward, the characters are compelling and easy to relate to and the focus on cuisine would attract the same audience that became huge fans of Iron Chef.
If anything is standing in the way of getting this masterpiece widespread North American distribution it’s the shortsightedness of American distributors and the potentially huge licensing costs.

Believe it or not, I’ve finished watching da entire series & m watching it again. I’ve da privilege to enjoy it in dual sound but I prefer listening to da Korean language & reading da subtitles in English. Lee Young Ae (DaChangJin) is excellent. To all those who reads this, she is an ‘ANGEL’. Long Live The Jewel In The Palace!!!

Mabuhay from Manila,Philippines! Warm hello Ms. Young Ae, even though I’ve seen the english version of this novel, I still keep on watching the tagalog version every night without a miss. I can even skip my office just to watch the telenovela here in Manila as I might miss the story telling of my officemates. My husband gave me the complete volume for my birthday present last Dec. 3 as he knows how I love watching you. Take care and hope to see you in Manila, Philippines soon.

This series the is best series of K-drama. I really enjoy the whole series and entitled actors and actresses. Everyone did an excellent job esp the little girl portrayed Dae Jang Geum she is so cute and shes definitely fit the role. As for Lee Young Ae, she did superb job of portraying DJG. I found she is too perfect for DJG. I must give an applause for the director who chose LYA to portray DJG. She is definitely born for this role. I just fallen in love w/her after watching this series. Or should I said, I love LYA’s DJG not LYA herself. Overall, I rated this 10/10. Highly recommended to watch it, you will love it I must say.

I hope they’ll release the novel in English! I have to read that!
I also agree that this is the best K-Drama so far. I’ve watched it already in dvds with subtitles, like how i watched other dramas before because I prefer listening to the original voice since it has more depth, but for this one, kudos to GMA 7 for doing a great job in dubbing the series. The voices fit well! Most of the subtitles were wrong spellings or wrong grammar, so watching it again in local TV made me understand it even more. I love DJG and MJH.. actually, all of the character are well fitted!

It’s simply excellent! Jewel in the Palace is a superb show, and my uncles even bought the original DVD version of it, and because I couldn’t catch up on the TV series so I’m watching it from the DVD. I am 14 years old, and it’s unlike any other Korean drama series I’ve ever seen. Keep up the good work!

i love this story, at first, i didn’t like it because did you notice, it’s kind of silly with everyone ..almost.. trying to harm her..when she was younger, in the palace, in that island and back in the palace.
but when i saw the love story , i was competely drawn by it. who knows what happen in the end? hear that the king died and she was with min. That’s so sad

Jang Geum did not live in North Korea. She lived in South Korea. The palace is in South Korea. Oh yeah, you can find that Jang Geum was really a rwal person and that the King favoured her by reading ‘Annals of Joseon’ found in the web. I read parts of it. Interresting. I only read the parts concerning jang Geum. Just go to wikipedia.com and serch ‘Jang Geum’.
