On afternoon of 8th October during the Pusan Film Festival, Lee Young Ae, the lead actress of Jewel in the Palace Korean drama, for the first time revealed to the media that although a China company has bought the copyright of Jewel in the Palace II, but she will not acted in Jewel in the Palace II drama.
She expressed gratitude towards the lovers of the Dae Jang Geum drama, which to her surprise, has huge followings in Chinese language speaking countries. However, Ji Jin Hee, herself and other casts will not acting again in the sequel to the Dae Jang Geum drama.
Previously there was news that Jewel in the Palace II is confirmed to start filming with new lead actress. According Miss To from Jewel in the Palace production company MBC Television’s Shanghai office, Jewel in the Palace II is an idea of a TV production company in Korea, which plans to invite original casts from Dae Jang Geum to act in the new drama, but the storyline and characters will be different. Meanwhile, lead actor Ji Jin Hee had already expressed in front of the media that he has no intention to act in the sequel.
The broadcast of Jewel in the Place in China is coming to end soon, and a lot of drama lovers still can’t get enough of it, and hope that the story of Jang Geum and Sir Min will continue; Jang Geum and Min Jung Ho left the palace to become normal peasant, the open-ended type of their life as peasants leaves a lot of imagination to the viewers for a sequel. But a lot of viewers said that Jewel in the Palace is the product of 5-years hard works by the producers, so if now hastily starts filming of a sequel for short term benefits, it will surely hurts the original Dae Jang Geum. So it’s best not to have a sequel.

8日下午，参加《亲切的金子》釜山电影节首映仪式的《大长今》女主角李英爱，首次向媒体透露，虽然有中国公司已买下《大长今2》版权，但自己铁定不会出演《大长今2》。
作为著名导演朴赞旭“复仇三部曲”的终结篇，《亲切的金子》受到韩国观众的热烈追捧，虽然影片早早在韩国公映，但首映场座无虚席。《亲切的金子》导演朴赞旭在首映式上大赞李英爱：“她是那种顾虑很多的演员。她不轻易接戏，一定要在自己觉得百分之百满意，没有任何问题的情况下才会出场演出。”这也许就是年过三十的李英爱并不高产的原因，“李英爱喜欢用多种方式表现自己的想法，从来不会认为自己就是最好的。而我们做导演的，最需要给她一种信心，诱导她相信自己。”
《大长今》在整个华语地区的火爆出乎了李英爱本人的预料，目前已有一家中国公司买下《大长今》续集的版权，但李英爱本人拒绝再度出演。她表示非常感谢中国观众对这部电视剧的喜爱，但自己和池珍熙等主角都不会继续出演。
此前有消息称，《大长今2》已经确定拍摄，女主角为新人。据《大长今》的出品方韩国MBC电视台驻上海办事处负责人杜女士透露，《大长今2》是韩国一家电视制作机构准备请《大长今》的原班人马拍摄的一部大型古装剧，故事和人物关系都不会再沿袭《大长今》。而《大长今》男主角池珍熙之前也都在媒体面前表达了“不会拍续集”的态度。
《大长今》在湖南卫视的播出已近尾声，许多观众觉得《大长今》70集看得还不过瘾，希望长今与闵大人的故事能继续进展下去；长今与闵大人离开宫廷，在民间过着普通人的生活这个开放式的结局为观众提供了无限猜想续集的可能性。但也有为数不少的观众认为，《大长今》是编剧用了五年的心血写作而成，假如为了短期利益而仓促上马拍摄续集，这对《大长今》未免是一种狗尾续貂的做法，因此他们认为最好不要拍续集。

unless whole original crew, li ying ai, JJh and the rest are back, it will only bring down the popularity and ppl will more of hate the part II. as a lover of jewel in the palace, unless cast are original, whole show not worth watching. same example can be seen in huan zhu ge ge 3. its worthless to watch without the original cast. as if its a whole new show with no beginning and ending

hi, i’m fr malaysia & a great fan of DJG, i do agree that a sequel w/o the original casts won’t be that interesting. What make this drama so successful is actually the whole casts & crews behind the scenes ! Kudos to Lee Young -Ae & Ji Jin Hee, you two really bring out the true spirits and courage of DJG & MJH.

I have rid the ‘addition’ for TV series for a long time. Never could I realise the repercussion of this fantastic series so much so that it is provoking my mindset towards life. It is realistic and encouraging. I congratulate the whole cast and crew. Well done.

Hope the next Jewal In The Palace 2 , i can watch Ms Lee playing as the role of jang Guen never end. She a excelent actress. She inspired everyone who watch her drama in Malaysia.

So Jewel in the Palace is a product of 5-years hard work. Now I understand how it can be so great. I sure do hope that they WONT hastily film a sequel for short term benefits. It will just ruin everybody’s impression for the show.

I agree with most of the comments.. If the major casts won’t be back (atleast those still alive after they left the palace), then what’s the point of having a sequel? It won’t be as sucessful. I would love to watch a sequest if the characters will be the same folks Ive grown to love. This drama has inspired me in so many things and I don’t want it to be ruined just bec they have to have a sequel to ride in it’s popularity.

I’m not too excited over a sequel, i hope they dont have a sequel for dae jang geum bcoz nothing can replace the original!!! and i can understand why lee young ae dont want to act again becoz she really worked hard on filming jewel in the palace and i think she’s gonna be really tired to film again. well that’s just my two cents.

Hi, i’m from Indonesia. i never enjoy korean film. BUT… Jewel In The Palace make me surprised!!! It’s a great drama film, with great cast i ever see.

Hi, when I start to write this letter, I thought very much about what I must write .First I want to express my interest to your really beautiful acting , I first saw you on ‘ Dae Jang Geum ‘ and I really attract to your acting and so I decide to know more about you and your films then I search about you on internet , for the first time I saw your pictures in web pages I really astonished .I am sure that you ask why this person become astonished when saw me in the internet , you know I said that I’m attract by your acting but what was I saw in the internet was your ( I’m really sorry ) body and your apparent form not your beautiful acting that I love it very much .
