Korean Hit TV Drama ‘Daejanggeum’ Sweeps Japan
November 9, 2005After creating a sensation in Chinese-speaking countries, the hit Korean TV drama “Daejanggeum (Jewel of the Palace)” is also touching the hearts of many Japanese fans. “Daejanggum” tells the story of a 16th-century woman who overcomes the prejudices of a male-dominated feudal society to rise to the position of royal chef and physician.
At a gathering organized by Japan’s broadcasting station NHK, Japanese fans of the drama had a chance to meet one of the leading actors, Yang Mi-gyeong, in person. “I hope everyone who watches our drama can keep their hopes high as the main character Janggeum does in the story,” Yang said. Fans also loved the little girl who played Janggeum as a child. There was even a contest to pick five little Japanese Janggeums.
The NHK event also served as a venue to introduce Korea’s magnificent traditional royal cuisine and culture. A cooking demonstration attracted many visitors who used to think of only kimchi and bulgogi when it comes to Korean food. “I was surprised to see how royal chefs for Korean kings always checked on the king’s health and prepared food accordingly,” one visitor said.
Organizers and participants said the success of one Korean TV drama can result in more than high ratings as elements of the show can speak directly to foreign audiences to help them understand and know more about Korean culture.

Hello, I LOVE Dae Jang Geum alot alot. This show is very touching, especially when Lady Han passed away. Every cast have acted very well. I love both Lee Young Ae and Yang Mi-gyeong. In this show, Lee Young Ae who have acted as Dae Jang Geum, have the “NEVER GIVE UP HOPE” character whenever Jang Geum met with any problems. Yang Mi-gyeong, who have acted Lady Han, has shown her ‘’MOTHER LOVE”. This is the BEST Drama show that I have ever seen and I hope that I can see more of their productions to be aired in Singapore.

Jewel in the Palace is one of the most remarkable drama series that i’ve ever seen. It’s so beautiful and educational. Nakaka-touch talaga ang bawat eksena. I’ve first seen this series at a local channel here in the phil. At first i’m not really interested on it bcoz i’m just not into “ancient times” type of movie. I prefer modern Asian movies and tv series. my aunt used to buy complete set of different asian series like “Full House”,and “Stairway to Heaven” and some great Korean movies. But then through my mom, “who is an avid viewer”, I got interested on it. Especially when I’ve watched the part where Jang-Geum was preparing food for the cooking competition. Maybe because (not just on the food that looks really delicious) but because of the hardwork and perseverance that she showed, while cooking. Then, I became an avid fan too. I didn’t want to miss it every night (though commercials were longer than those exciting scenes) (”well I understand!”) Then an uncle of mine borrowed the complete dvd set of it, from a rich friend who loves this series too. So there, me, my grandmom, my aunt and my mom spent the whole weekend to watch it. Every episode is truly breathtaking (especially without commercia!). So we watched it till our eyes drop (with tears of joy and sadness!), but more of happiness of course! I myself , felt so overwhelmed about what happened to Jang-geum at the end. Her life in the palace is ful of obstacles that she has to undego but through her excellence and dedication, being a doctor, she pursued her dream and her promise, which is to prove her Mom and Madam Han’s innocence and to clear their names. Jang-geum is truly a legendary and great woman of her time. She served as an inspiration for every woman to have the dignity and confidence to face trials and to show that there’s no yardstick or gender for excellence and power.
Congratulations to the creators of this series for letting different individuals know their country’s history through Jang-Geum’s story. I truly learned a lot about various medications, different procedures and treatments of Jang-Geum to her patients. It felt like I’ve also seen an educational show and you’ll never get bored coz the doctor herself had a good and fun chaacter. At hte same time, her love story is totally interesting. I also learned the culture and ways of living that time. Even their beliefs and government rules meant a lot on the whole story. This is the best series I’ve ever seen,,, truly an award-winning one.
one of the thoughts that goes on my mind hopes that every doctor should be like Jang-Geum. I’m so glad that this is shown here in our country. Filipinos were now inspired and knowledgeable. ALso, this is already the No. 1 show in primetime.
Great show.. wonderful cast… Lee Young-ae who portrayed Jang-Geum is a great actress, as if she put her heart into it. As well as the other casts, like the King and Sir Min Jio-ho.

Jewel in the palace is a story i love to watch all my life, its full of wisdom, super ganda talaga. And jang geum is so beautiful! also lady han and lady yonsang. And kapitan is so handsome.

since PHILIPINES envades koreannovela in GMA 7 , ‘’JEWEL IN THE PALACE ‘’ is the best drama ever i see, like the story is base on day to day life experience to people, all her courage and good values learn to be reflect on our life , i cry when LADY HANN died in the scene also every episode has an impact REALLY VERY GOOD KOREAN DRAMA two thumbs up to LEE YOU AE thank you for inspired me to live long

katatapos ko lang manood ng unang hirit , i try na video sa tv yung interview nila kanina, kaso mahirap pala sa phone cam nag gu-guhit-guhit pag tagal.hayyy….saan ko pa kaya susundan ang mga idol ko?saan naman kaya nila dadalhin? gusto kong sumunod ..di ako mapalagay kasi hindi ako nakakuha ng autograph nila ,nakakainissss!!!!!!kunf sakaling nakuha ako no? ipa -pa frame ko yung at ipapa poster ko pa ng malaki.

WOW! ito lang ang masasbi ko sa Jewel in the Palace… gaya ng mga ibang ngcomment dito..at first, nung nkita ko yung trailer ng jewl in the place..hindi ko ngaustuhan kasi ayokong naka2kita ng mga ancient series gaya ng amazing twins pati ung sa ibang channel etc..pero nung dumating ung time na wala na akong mpanood sa tv ksi kgagaling lang magreview..i tried to watch jewel in the palace..and you know what!? pgktpos kong npanood ung series, ngkamali ako ng tingin d2! npakaganda tlga! ito ang pinakanaiiba sa lhat ng koreanovela! first kung npanood ung sa paligsahan ng paggawa ng mantao! ewan ko ba kung bkit marami ang nahuhumaling dito..kahit na first time mo lng mapanood..eh..tlgang ma2addict ka! kahit nga n inaantok na ko eh..hi2ntayin ko pa rin ung jewel…kahit na sobrang late n! ang dami kong natu2nan dito! na dpat maging HUMBLE tayo sa lahat ng pagka2taon, PAGMAMAHAL sa kapwa kahit na kaaway mo,pagiging MABAIT kahit na merong umaapi sa yo pati ang SIPAG at TIYAGA sa lhat ng oras! natu2nan ko rin ang kanilang kultura sa KOREA! na dapat ay lu2hod ka ksma ng iyong dlawang kamay bilang paggalang! ang pagupo ng mga nkatataas na tgapaglingod na dpat nkapatong ang kamay sa tuhod habang nakaupo atbp.. sana AGAHAN NG GMA! ung jewel.. kasi sobrang late na tlaga! kung gusto nilang marami ang mkapanood nito ay dpat na agahan nila ito! kung mangyayari yun…matatalo na nila ung ROSALINDA ng channel 2 dati! sayang tlga! sana kung irereplay uli ito..ay gawin na lng sa time ng extra challenege..PLEASE LANG POH!

….gaya ng ibang nag coment, una hindi ko nagustuhan ang juwel pero one time napanood ko to, ang ganda marami kang matutunan dito bikod sa mga medicine ta masasarap na pag kain, matututnan mo din lumabansa buhay ng nag-iisa at kayanin ang lahat ng mgaproblema mo gaya ni jang jum, minsan naisip nya na sumuko at pabayaan nalang ang mga nang api sa kanila,pero lumaban parin siya sa kanyangmakakaya,
talagang mapakaraming matutunansa juwel,at ang nakakapag pa ganda sina kapitan at jang jum nakakatuwa silang panoorin….tuwang tuwa talaga ako sa GMA,kasiilang buwan nataposang juwel at ilang buwan palang ay ibinalik ito dahil na gustuhan talaga namin mga manood…. Samalat sa juwel kasi marami akong natutunan sa palabas na to….
