Some 3,000 Japanese fans came out to see one of the Korean Wave’s top stars, Lee Young-ae, on Tuesday. “Korea’s Sayuri Yoshinaga, the beautiful Lee Young-ae, held her first fan meeting in Japan at Tokyo’s Shibuya NHK Hall,” the Sankei Sports newspaper reported.

In part to promote the drama that she appeared in "Daejanggeum (A Jewel in the Palace)", which is now showing on Japan’s NHK television, the actress traveled to Japan where she wooed fans over once again with her great looks and fine grace, that led to her being praised as the "Korean Sayuri Yoshinaga." Sayuri Yoshinaga is a popular actress who despite turning 61 this year has managed to maintain her uniquely graceful appearance.

Lee said in an interview with a reporter on the scene that she admired the animated films of Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. When asked about her ideal type, the actress added, "I’d like to choose someone who never stops thinking about me."

LISTEN up, fans of Korean actress Lee Young Ae.

You can catch a glimpse of your idol at two locations next Monday.

First, the airport. The star of hit drama Jewel In The Palace will be arriving at 2.15pm via SQ883.

After that, the LG spokesmodel is slated to appear at Millenia Walk’s The Great Hall at around 3.30pm to sign the LG Wishing Wall.

This is a charitable project in support of less privileged women and children in Asia.

After that, Lee, 35, will devote her energies to the 2006 LG Pan Asian Family Festival, to be held at Swissotel The Stamford.

She is expected to meet the media and trade representatives from eight Asian countries.

The thunderous applause from about 100 local fans of “Jewel in the Palace” was heard as Ms Yang Mi Kyung and Ms Cho Jeoung Eun made their entrance to a reception held last night for the two popular Korean actresses at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

Ms Yang Mi Kyung and Ms Cho Jeoung Eun are Korean Special Envoys of Friendship on Commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Dialogue Partnership between Asean and Korea.

On hand to greet the stars was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awg Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Also present at the reception were the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr Hwang Won Kun, foreign dignitaries as well as senior government officers.

In the minister’s speech, he hoped that .with the actresses’ busy schedule, the ladies would have the opportunity to visit some of the country’s places of interest as well as meet some of their fans. He was also certain that this visit will create more fans and friends as well as strengthening the existing bilateral relations, especially in the field of culture.

At the event, Ms Cho Jeoung Eun also presented the Minister with a souvenir.

In addition, local fans also had the chance to ask variuos questions to the two actresses.

During their stay, fans will also have the opportunity to meet with the “Jewel in the Palace” stars at a meet-the-fans session today at The Mall, Gadong at 5.30pm.
